A natal chart is a map of the sky at the exact moment you were born — a snapshot of where every planet was, from Earth's perspective, at your birth time and location.

Astrologers read this map as a description of your nature: tendencies, strengths, blind spots, and recurring themes. It doesn't determine what happens to you — it describes the shape of how you tend to move through the world.

the big three

Most of what shapes your personality comes from three placements:

sun sign
☉ core identity
Who you are at the center. Your creative drive, the story you're living out. Changes sign roughly every 30 days.
moon sign
☽ emotional nature
What you need to feel safe and nourished. Your instinctive reactions. Changes sign every 2–3 days.
rising sign (ascendant)
↑ outward self
The face you present before people know you well. Also determines your house system — which areas of life each planet activates. Changes sign every ~2 hours, which is why birth time matters.

how dumluck uses your chart

Each week, dumluck tracks where the Moon is moving through your personal chart — specifically which house it's activating based on your rising sign. That's why two people born on the same day can have very different readings: their Moon is in the same sign, but in different houses.

Aspects — the angular relationships between the transiting Moon and your natal planets — add another layer of specificity. A trine feels different from a square, and which planet is involved changes the meaning again.
